Answers

How do I maintain my floor?
It is very important to use non-acidic cleaning products. DO NOT use vinegar
and water.
How thick should my sub-floor be?
The thickness will depend on the stability of your floor. Plywood must be installed over an adequate subfloor and be at least 1 1/4″ thick when combined with the subfloor. Interior-grade plywood and particleboard are not considered a strong enough floor underlayment. The plywood needs to be fastened with flooring screws or wood screws every six inches on the edges and eight inches in the field.
Can I install tile on top of existing tile?
Yes you can but a specialized glue is needed.
Can I install tile on cement?
Yes. Cement is the ideal base for tile installation.
What can I do about cold tiles in the winter?
A floor heating system can be installed. The heat is controlled by a thermosat.
What are the benefits of using tile?
Durable if installed correctly
Scratch resistant
Easy to clean
Affordable
Waterproof
Colour doesn’t fade
Wide variety
How Effective is the Safe Solution Treatment?
The Safe Solution increases the co-efficient of friction (traction) on a treated surface. A static co-efficient of friction (COF) of 0.5 is considered a safe surface (according to UL and ASTM). Laboratory tests show that a Safe Solution treated surface has a COF of 0.6-0.7.
However, the best way to understand the effectiveness of the Safe Solution is to have one of our certified dealers demonstrate the treatment on your floor so you can see and feel the dramatic difference.
How long does the treatment last?
The longevity of a Safe Solution treatment varies greatly depending on the amount of foot traffic, cleaning chemicals and maintenance procedures. However, with our Floor Care Program we offer a Lifetime Safety Guarantee – because we monitor the floor and rejuvenate the treatment when it begins to get slippery again.
Will the Safe Solution damage my floor?
No, the Safe Solution treatment will not damage your floor, provided that proper maintenance procedures are followed. In fact, several of our dealers are also tile setters. (see #16)
Will the Safe Solution change the appearance of my floor?
Occasionally, when the Safe Solution is applied efflorescence (white residue) appears. However, this disappears quickly with regular cleaning and use. We also always do a small sample tile before treatment to show you how your floor will react to the treatment.
Is the Safe Solution treatment permanent?
It is a permanent treatment in the sense that the treatment cannot be reversed. However, the treatment does not last forever (see #8)
Does the Safe Solution work on VCT tiles or acrylic bathtubs?
No. The Safe Solution works on hard mineral surfaces and steel-enamel bathtubs. We are currently working on formulating a solution for VCT tiles and acrylic bathtubs.
What is the Maintenance Solution?
The Maintenance Solution is a concentrated multi-purpose cleaner/degreaser designed specifically to maintain Safe Solution treated floors. The Maintenance Solution is also anti-bacterial, biodegradable and environmentally friendly.
How effective is the Maintenance Solution?
Most commercial cleaners are detergent based formulas that leave a  slippery residue on the surface which is hard to rinse away. The Maintenance Solution, however, is not detergent based and does not leave the same residue build-up on the floor. The Maintenance Solution has also proved to be a superior degreaser to the most popular commercial degreasing detergents in side-by-side tests.
Can I continue to use my current cleaner on a Safe Solution treated surface?
The detergent residues that are a left behind from most other commercial cleaners severely shorten the longevity of the Safe Solution treatment. Therefore, we cannot guarantee any floor that is not being cleaned with the Maintenance Solution.
How do you maintain a Safe Solution treated floor?
We customize a maintenance program for each of our customers based on their unique needs. However, the cleaning regimen, generally, does not change dramatically from other standard maintenance procedures.
